The bombardment of the thick drops from the trees. And out of your line of sight, sounds are muted or magnified unaccountably. You can not see but a few yards in front of you. The forest in the fog is a haunted and potentially frightneing place. The rain slowed and I rang the water out my flannel shirt into my mouth and continued through the fog. I parked myself under a thick growth of huckleberry bushes and used my flannel shirt as a makeshift blanket against the rain. ![]() After gathering several punds and continuing off in search of new growth, the rain began to fall. #Take your shirt off swing it like a helicopter Patch#Even though a huge fog bank had huddled down around me that morning, I knew exactly where the mushroom patch was. I climbed up to the cave and around it to a patch of mushrooms that I had memorized for a few years. No stacks of stolen and long forgotten cash. It looked like a pie safe, or a broken time machine. But right in the very back of the cave, laying on it's side was an old rusty washing machine. It did not go back too far, maybe a hundred feet. I went deeper into the cave and where the light could not longer shine on the walls or floor, it started to look more like a cave. To me it looked like someone was here for a while, maybe keeping out of the rain, so, why not dig? Or maybe it was where a homeless Bluebeard was jsut starting to dig a hole big enough to bury his treasure, or his wives. I investigated the cave by lamplight like a moder day teenage sherlock holmes. Even it it did show signs of being vistited by humans, which it had. Finding a cave on accidnet seems likea once in a life time achievement. One that was not repeatable, even if I set out to find another cave. #Take your shirt off swing it like a helicopter how to#So early the next morning, I grabbed my Dads 50 year old Blue metal coleman lantern, the kind that is not for sale anywhere anymore, a Gig Harbor Ford Matchbook taught myself how to use the lantern and went to find out what was inside the cave.
